DIPLOMA IN TECHNOLOGY

Introduction
The Part-Time Diploma in Technology is a comprehensive programme aimed at the professional upgrading of adults who possess relevant work experience in various fields of engineering. The course is unique as it operates on an open and flexible environment to allow working adults to pave their own learning progress and strike a balance between work, family and study. Modules are assigned credit units and students "Earn as they Learn" by accumulating credits for modules passed till the minimum required total of 80 credit units for graduation is achieved. There is flexibility for students to select modules to suit their immediate needs at work.

Electrical
Mechanical
Mechatronics
Marine & Offshore
Logistics
Water Technology

Course Objective
The objective of this course is to train students to become competent in the respective fields of engineering. Cross-disciplinary electives will also allow participants to learn wide-ranging fields of skills and knowledge.

Who Should Attend
Working adults who possess relevant work experience in various fields of engineering and who want to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

Course Content
The course duration of the Diploma in Technology is a minimum of 1200 hours or 80 credit units (NOTE: 1 credit unit = 15 hours of study). Core modules should comprise a minimum of 840 - 960 hours depending on the major chosen (eg Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical [840hrs], Building Services / Logistics [900 hrs], Mechatronics/Marine & Offshore [960 hrs]). Students must also complete the prescribed number of credit units for elective modules to graduate. More information on electives will be provided at the beginning of each semester.

NOTE: The Polytechnic reserves the right to make changes to and/or replace modules listed in the documents above as and when required/or deemed fit to enhance the programme offered.

Minimum Entry Requirements

CATEGORY 1 – Direct Entry
Any ONE of the following + at least 3 years of relevant working experience:
a) 3 GCE “O” levels in English (Grades 1- 7), Mathematics (Grades 1 - 6) & *Science (Grades 1 - 6, with either Physics, Chemistry or Biology component) A pass in Science is not required for the Logistics major
b) NTC2 (COM) or NITEC (GPA 3.5 & above)
c) ITC or Higher NITEC (2 years of relevant working experience if applying for the relevant major)
d) Recognised foreign qualifications equivalent to those in (a), (b), or (c)

CATEGORY 2 – Applications Requiring Entrance Test(s)
Any ONE of the following + at least 3 years of relevant working experience
a) 3 GCE “O” levels (Grades 1- 6) in any subject except ECA;
b) NTC2 (without COM);
c) NITEC (GPA < 3.5);
d) Recognised foreign qualifications equivalent to those in (a), (b) or (c) BUT do not possess passes in English (Grades 1-7), Mathematics (Grades 1 -6) & *Science (Grades 1 - 6, with either Physics, Chemistry or Biology component).

NB: Applicants in Category 2 who do not have “O” Levels English (Grades 1 - 7), Maths (Grades 1 - 6) & Science (Grades 1 - 6) MUST pass the Entrance Test(s) in the relevant subject(s). No entrance test for Science is required for those applying to the Logistics major. Application forms for Entrance Tests are downloadable via the CPD website @ www.np.edu.sg/cpd

NB *Science subjects which are acceptable for entry into the Diploma in Technology : Additional Combined Science, Additional Science, Biology, Chemistry, Combined Science, Design & Technology, Engineering Science, Integrated Science, Physical Science, Physics, Science (Chemistry, Biology), Science (Physics, Biology), Science (Physics, Chemistry), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). Human & Social Science, Human & Social Biology & General Science are not acceptable.
