NTUC Choice Homes Co-operative Limited
NTUC Choice Homes Co-operative Ltd was set-up in 1995 to help more Singaporeans meet their aspirations to own private property by delivering quality housing at fair and affordable prices.

Its projects are well spread over Singapore in various localities like Toa Payoh in the central; Dakota in the city fringe; Ang Mo Kio and Bishan in the north; Kovan and Sengkang in the northeast; Choa Chu Kang in the west and Tanah Merah and Simei in the east; near MRT stations and other amenities like schools, shops and eateries.

Since its inception, it has developed or is in the midst of developing a total of 13 projects including a freehold private condominium (Riviera Residences), four executive condominiums (Park Green, Bishan Loft, Yew Mei Green and Simei Green), and eight private 99-year leasehold condominiums (upcoming condominium in Toa Payoh, Dakota Residences, Casa Merah, YewTee Residences, Kovan Melody, Grandeur 8, Rivervale Crest and Tropical Spring) with a total of 5,931 units.

 

NTUC Club
Established in 1986, NTUC Club is the entertainment and leisure arm of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). It constantly seeks to reinvent itself to offer exciting promotions and programmes for all by providing a wide range of affordable choice, recreational experiences on a sustainable basis. The club is committed to membership recruitment and retention through generating value in union membership.

A key focus of the club is to build and engage dynamic communities of the Labour Movement. This has resulted in the creation of nEbO, a 12-21 years old lifestyle community and many interest groups and events to engage a vibrant community of active agers.

Today, the club is one of the largest lifestyle provider in Singapore. Its key properties include Downtown East (DE), an integrated lifestyle and recreational destination that caters to the wide interests of modern youths and families by bringing exciting activities and fun facilities under one roof. DE is also home to two popular theme parks, Wild Wild Wet and Escape Theme Park, both featuring many exhilarating ‘first-in-Asia’ rides. The latest addition to the DE landscape is entertainment and leisure centre E!hub, featuring a cinema, an arcade, Orchid Bowl, eXplorerkid - Singapore’s largest indoor family playground at a sprawling 35,000 square feet, nEbO City - and a 25-metre high indoor Ferris wheel. Other properties include three other holiday resorts (Costa Sands Resort at Downtown East, Pasir Ris and Sentosa), five clubhouses (DXO, Scarlet City, Union Square, Happy Days and Jest D’Place), nEbO Hub at Ang Mo Kio Hub, nEbO City and a spa (The Spa @Aranda).

 

NTUC Eldercare Co-operative Limited
NTUC Eldercare Co-operative Limited was set up in 1997 to provide services to the ageing population. Eldercare aims to provide affordable and quality care services for the elderly of average dual-income Singaporean families, helping them to look after their elderly dependents while they are at work. It also generates awareness on challenges facing an ageing population. Since 1999, Eldercare has established five social day care centres for the elderly. They are located at Marsiling, Taman Jurong, Pasir Ris, Jurong Central and Punggol South.

The centres provide holistic structured programmes and activities that cater to the physical, mental and social needs of the elderly. Physiotherapy and loans of home care equipment are among the few value-added services that they offer. Union members are able to enjoy a monthly rebate of $15.

Eldercare also provides Care@Home service, a non-medical homecare service for elderly who are home-bound and need quality social care. The range of services include:

  • Basic Care – Personal Grooming, Exercise, Companionship, Medical Escort, Physio-Treatment and Dressing Care
  • Professional Services – Counselling, Physiotherapy
  • Value-add – Meals Preparation, Light Housekeeping, Grocery Shopping
  • In addition, Financial Assistance Schemes such as Government Means-Test and subsidy from Eldercare Trust are also available for families that require financial assistance.

Eldercare hopes to see the ageing Singaporean population being adequately supported, cared for and loved by their families and the community.

 

NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Limited
Founded in 1973, NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Limited has become Singapore’s leading supermarket retailer with a chain of more than 200 stores in diverse retail formats across the island.

Employer to more than 6,000 workers, NTUC FairPrice has a retail network comprising FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest stores, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets as well as FairPrice Xpress and Cheers convenience stores.

The co-operative serves both the public and its more than 400,000 co-operative members who, through their support, make NTUC FairPrice Singapore’s very own leading supermarket chain.

FairPrice’s founding mission was to moderate the cost of living in Singapore. Today, that social mission remains at the heart of its operations. Its many community projects are aimed at contributing to the community. In March 2008, it launched the NTUC FairPrice Foundation, with the mission to provide a better life for the community. With NTUC FairPrice Foundation, FairPrice is now able to provide a better structure to its corporate giving and contribute to causes that are aligned with its social mission in a systematic and sustained manner. The foundation also serves as an institutional tribute to FairPrice’s commitment to serve, care and share with the community at large.

FairPrice also aims to provide its customers with the best value, quality products and excellent service, while serving the needs of its members, workers and the community, and fulfilling its role as a good corporate citizen.

FairPrice is the first supermarket retailer in Singapore to have its own central warehousing and distribution company. It operates a 13,000-square-metre Fresh Food Distribution Centre. With these structural systems in place, FairPrice is able to achieve excellent inventory control and optimise procedural efficiency.

 

NTUC First Campus Co-operative Limited
NTUC First Campus is a community of teachers, parents and early childhood professionals working together to bring out the best in each child.

NTUC First Campus was established as NTUC Childcare in 1977 and we became a co-operative in 1992. We represent the highest quality standards of professionalism in early childhood education and are committed to making the best quality pre-school education available to all.

As a pioneer and innovator in the early childhood education in Singapore and the region, we aim to make a positive difference in fulfiling the promise of each child through our extensive network of more than 50 pre-schools in the community.

NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Limited
NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Limited was founded in 1995 with the mission to stabilize cooked food prices in Singapore. Today, Foodfare continues to fulfill this social role by keeping its prices for basic essential beverage and cooked food low and affordable.

During good times, Foodfare moderates price increase by setting benchmark prices. During tough times, it takes on the responsibility of helping workers tide over the difficulties by absorbing price hikes where necessary.

Foodfare’s social role in safeguarding the interests of the average Singaporean came to the fore when it dealt with the rising prices of the Coffee and Milo beverages in Singapore in March 2006. Foodfare has stayed true to its mission by absorbing the increased operational and raw material costs. Foodfare also decided not to raise the coffee prices and kept its Milo prices the same to help workers cope better.

As at December 2006, Foodfare operated eight outlets – 4 food courts, 4 coffee shops, and 1 food kiosk. It also caters food to 9 army camps and operates a factory producing retail packed frozen bakery items and local delicacies, sauces and pastes in Senoko South Road.

 

NTUC Healthcare Co-operative Limited
Established in 1992, NTUC Healthcare Co-operative Limited’s mission is to help moderate the cost of healthcare in Singapore through promoting and providing quality healthcare products and services at affordable prices.

The co-operative operates 34 Unity pharmacies, 8 The Living Pharmacy, 13 dental clinics, 6 medical clinics and 3 Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics.

In view of the growing aging population in Singapore, NTUC Healthcare opened its first medical products and rehabilitative equipment outlet named “Physiocare” in February 2008 at Bukit Merah Central. Physiocare aims to cater to the needs of the elderly and sports atheletes as well as to provide a one-stop-centre convenience on rehabilitation to the public. Services range from retail of health and rehabilitation products to sports injuries management and rehabilitative therapy advice. Educational videos are also screened at the outlet, providing information about certain medical conditions. These videos aim to educate customers on preventive treatments. NTUC Healthcare plans to set up another three to four PhysioCare outlets in the next one to two years in anticipation of greater demands due to an ageing population. These outlets will be set up in strategic locations to benefit as many elderly and their caregivers as possible.

The co-operative is also committed to help Singaporeans and the community from time to time. To help offset the rising cost of living, NTUC Healthcare offers 10 to 20 per cent discount on a different range of products every week, throughout all its Unity pharmacy stores from May until July 2008. These products include vitamins, health supplements and surgical items.

The dental clinics also provides free consultation for a month in December to o help promote oral hygiene awareness.

 

NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited
Established in 1970 in response to the growing needs for affordable insurance, NTUC Income has become a leading life, health and general insurer, earning the trust of 1.8 million customers.

The $20 billion company has been rated “AA” by independent credit ratings agency, Standard & Poor's since 1999, the highest accolade given to a domestic insurer in Asia, reflecting a strong financial profile, flexibility and capacity to meet new challenges.

NTUC Income's insurance plans benefit large numbers of Singaporeans from all strata of society. The company also supports the community through financial contributions to charities and other worthy causes. Among them is NTUC Income’s contribution of $1.165 million to the Labour Movement U Care Fund in 2009.

In December 2008, NTUC Income organised a charity fundraiser, NTUC Income Project Love 2008. Through a series of quirky activities, NTUC Income’s senior management team, staff and sales force raised $375,000 for the Labour Movement U Care Fund, the Moral Home for Disabled, the Singapore Children's Society, Action for AIDS, as well as several smaller charities.

 

NTUC LearningHub Private Limited
NTUC LearningHub Private Limited was corporatised in 2004 with the mission to enhance the lifelong employability of Singapore’s workforce by providing high quality, innovative products and affordable learning. The training programmes provided by NTUC LearningHub® comprise Infocomm Technology, Professional IT Certificates, Soft Skills & Literacy, Workplace Safety & Health, Employability Skills System, Customer Service Training, Pharmaceutical, Trades, Cleaning, WSQ Security and Manufacturing Skills.

NTUC LearningHub, formerly known as NTUC Computer Training Centre, has been evolving with the Singapore workers' training needs since 1982 to help them stay employable. It focuses on providing high quality training courses that are contemporary and affordable. To date, it has trained close to 600,000 people and more than 10,000 companies. NTUC Link Private Limited
NTUC Link Pte Ltd’s mission is to maximise benefits and provide real value in the LinkPoints Loyalty and Reward Programme. Incorporated in 1998, it aims to bring greater value and savings to members by having a stream of quality merchants offering LinkPoints and attractive rewards.

The LinkPoints Programme has more than 1.2 million members and over 600 participating merchant outlets with features such as Instant Redemption, Online Rewards and Starbuys. Approximately 2 billion LinkPoints were awarded to members in the year 2008. Today, LinkPoints has become one of the most popular and effective loyalty programmes in Singapore.

The LinkPoints Programme continues to strengthen its benefits for members and in the year 2006 the LinkPoints website was ranked #1 in the Hitwise Singapore for the Rewards category industry based on number of visits.

In addition to the LinkPoints Programme, the company has a relationship marketing arm – LinkLabs. LinkLabs helps companies to set up their local and worldwide loyalty programmes and provides customised relationship marketing services.

 

NTUC Media Co-operative Limited
NTUC Media Co-operative Limited has evolved as the voice piece of the labour movement. The labour movement's vision for a communication link with workers can be looked back to be as old as the National Trades Union Congress itself. The NTUC Secretary-General edited the first labour publication, “Perjuangan”. After a series of changes, NTUC Media was established in 1997 with a vision to fulfill NTUC's vision to run a professional publications'management body.

The key social roles of NTUC Media are encompassed in two perspectives. It strives to promote an enhanced understanding of labour and current issues which encircle the labour movement. It also aims to be an excellent media provider, offering a range of more effective products and services to reach target markets of its clients at affordable rates with value-add services.

This social mission is achieved with its current vehicles, NTUC This Week and Lifestyle. In addition, NTUC Media's management and staff have been actively engaged in increasing and improving the quality of activities that support its co-operatives' social mission. The genuine support of various members of the NTUC Family – unions, co-operatives, associations and affiliated companies – has laid paths for these efforts.

To refocus its energy in publications and events, NTUC Media confined its stake in a joint venture, Unionworks Private Limited, that operates two radio stations –Radio 91.3 and Radio 100.3. NTUC Media now owns 20 per cent of Unionworks, down from 50 per cent. NTUC Media also carries out ad-hoc publishing and events management.

 

NTUC Thrift & Loan Co-operative Limited
NTUC Thrift & Loan Co-operative Limited was formed in 1998 with the primary mission to inculcate the good habit of thrift and grow the cash assets of its members. Besides paying higher interest rates on savings and fixed deposits and charging less for loans, NTUC Thrift also seeks to give better returns with higher dividend payout for subscription capital investments. Dividend payouts are tied to overall profit performance of the co-operative.

Through the En-bloc Savings scheme, NTUC Thrift encourages union members from unionized companies as a group to commit to a regular monthly savings plan. The scheme aims to help them save up for rainy days or emergencies. In 2006, NTUC Thrift launched the Retrenched Workers Fixed Deposit scheme to help retrenched union members get better returns on their retrenchment payouts.

Since 1998, NTUC Thrift has been steadfastly growing from strength to strength. As at end 2008, membership enrolment stands at 84,000 with total assets under management totaling $536 million. Membership is open to all members of NTUC affiliated unions.
