Ma Yujia, owner of a beauty palour, is a busybody. She loves to criticise people without good reason, and dislikes people in general. Her younger brother Ma Yucai is cowardly and henpecked. Her younger sister Ma Yuwan is an anxious person by nature, and speaks so quickly she sounds like a machine gun going off. The three siblings are supposed to listen to their late mother’s advice, to love and support one another. However, because of their differences in personality as well as family or career matters, they are often at loggerheads with one another.

Yujia’s husband Xiong Weihong is a secondary school teacher. He is not however, as brave and magnificent as a bear as his name suggests, but instead is a Mr. Goody Two Shoes and as timid as a mouse. Weihong’s main method of seeking relief after being severely scolded by his wife Yujia ever so often is to have a cup of coffee at the coffeeshop nearby. Yujia and Weihong have a daughter Xiong Junjie, who works at NTUC Fairprice as a branch manager. Her mother who longed for a son has dressed her as boy since she was a little girl. Therefore, she still dresses androgynously and even behaves like a man, doing things like standing up for strangers in public like a knight in shining armor. This worries Yujia immensely, and she has a fear of Junjie turning lesbian. Thus, whenever Junjie happens to have a male friend or companion around her, Yujia will force Weihong to team up with her to try and matchmake this person with Junjie. This creates much amusement.

Junjie joined SDU activities a couple of times just to appease her parents. However, she found it rather enriching to help bring other people together instead, and so still had no progress or change in her single status.

Yucai and Yuwan are a pair of very dissimilar twins. Yucai has inherited the family’s gift of the gab, and is media savvy in addition. He has the people skills that his sisters are lacking in. He is therefore able to hold his position as sales manager in a food products company for many years. Yucai’s greatest weakness is his over-pampering of his wife Xu Minmin. Minmin has been spoilt, and feels that a modern family should not include the entire clan. She is constantly trying to convince Yucai to distance himself from his sisters. This displeases Yujia and Yuwan, and puts Yucai in a difficult position. He finally chooses to listen to his wife after she gets pregnant, and stops contacting his sisters. This makes Yujia and Yuwan extremely angry and they even want to cut off all family ties with Yucai.

Yuwan is already in her thirties, but does not act her age. She is extremely impatient, anxious, and does not take time to listen to people properly. She jumps to conclusions, or even picks squabbles over small matters. Thus, even though she is quite pretty and has dated many times, she is still not able to find a good match to settle down with. Also, because of her shortcomings in character, she is one of the first to be retrenched from her tour guide job. Yuwan and Yujia share a particular trait – that when something bad happens, they blame other people first instead of asking themselves if they have done anything wrong. Yuwan’s fellow retrenched colleagues have all taken upgrading courses and found new jobs. But Yuwan feels that upgrading is a waste of time, and remains jobless.

Yucai’s colleague Lu Wenhui joins the SDU and gets to know Junjie. The two hit it off well, and become buddies. Junjie develops feelings for Wenhui, but Wenhui treats her like a brother. Wenhui is rather traditional in his preference for women, liking the ones who are more feminine. In treating Junjie as a buddy, Wenhui puts Junjie through emotional turmoil in her first attempt at the game of love, when she even has to accompany him on dates with other women!

Yujia learns about this. Having been worried about her daughter’s lack of marriage suitors for such a long time, she takes matters into her own hands by approaching Wenhui. Wenhui realises Junjie’s intentions only after this incident. However, he still prefers ladylike women, and rejects Junjie’s feelings for him. Junjie is sad and embarrassed.

Yuwan has been jobless for a very long time, and has been going to SLF to look for jobs. She constantly blames the SLF officer for her own inability to land a job. The officer in charge of her case Chuanfeng treats her with utmost patience. Yuwan changes her attitude slowly, from disapproval, to feeling touched, and finally to being willing to upgrade herself. She lands a good job at last, and is extremely grateful to Chuanfeng. The stubborn Yuwan discovers that besides feelings of gratitude towards Chuanfeng, they have gradually developed feelings of love for each other.

Wenhui is finally seeing a very feminine lady who is also extremely reliant on him. Yet he also finds himself suffocated by her demands, and keeps turning to Junjie for a listening ear. After much contact with Junjie, he starts to appreciate Junjie’s straightforward character. However, because she has been hurt before, Junjie rejects Wenhui’s profession of love this time round.

Yuwan has become quite the thinker after attending upgrading courses. She learns of the situation and hatches a scheme to convince Junjie. It works, and Yujia is extremely grateful towards Yuwan. At the same time, Yujia is surprised at the changes in Yuwan. Yuwan expresses that she has seen the light after going through some hardship herself. Yujia realises that she is guilty of the same behavior as Minmin, which is to have neglected her sister while being preoccupied with her own family.

The oppressed Weihong gets to know a gentle Chinese woman Liu Qing at the coffeeshop. Liu Qing listens to Weihong’s troubles with much patience, and Weihong is moved. He is momentarily and uncontrollably charmed. Yujia gets suspicious and discovers the so-called “extra-marital affair”. She refuses to listen to Weihong’s explanations and picks a huge fight with him. He suggests a divorce, and Yujia, in a fit of anger, agrees immediately. However, she realises straight away that days without her husband are long and lonely.

Junjie joins forces with her aunt Yuwan to mediate between her parents. Weihong expresses that he only wanted a patient listening ear for his troubles and nothing more. Yuwan analyses for Yujia her incorrect methods of caring for her husband in their long years of marriage. Yujia searches herself and realises her mistakes.

Minmin is now the mother of twins, and has learnt the importance of kinship. At the same time, she does not want her twin children to take after their elders, and fight with each other over everything. Minmin takes the initiative to visit Yujia and Yuwan, to seek forgiveness from them.

During the Qing Ming festival, the three siblings of the Ma family sit down for a meal together after paying their respects to their late parents. After all the ups and downs that have happened, they can finally get together in peace, which they have not done for such a long time. Yujia finds herself striking the first prize in 4D for the first time in her life, which is a prize of $10,000. Junjie discovers that the antique dining table around which they are sitting, that was left behind by their grandfather, has a large “wealth” character engraved on the top, which they have never noticed before despite using it for so many years. They jokingly deduce that with the whole family gathering often for meals, wealth will befall in the family!
