CABARET

Berlin 1930s: it's the most deliciously degenerate place and time the 20th century has known. Glittering in this giant boudoir of rot and romance is a cabaret called the Kit Kat Klub, where a fiendishly entertaining and seductively sinister Emcee holds court (don't say you're not warned) ...

Enters earnest, wide-eyed American writer, Cliff Bradshaw, looking for inspiration but stumbling over love instead – in the feisty, eccentric person of Sally Bowles, an English chanteuse with a live-for-the-moment desperation and questionable taste in nail polish.

But in a fragmenting world where glamour is often indistinguishable from danger, and the shadow of evil looms ever larger, is it too much to ask for love to conquer all?

Witness Asian superstar, Fei Xiang, shapeshift beyond recognition ... into the sneering leering Emcee, in the breakout (and dare we say, knockout?) role of the year. We won't blame you if you can't ever look at this celebrated singer-performer the same way again.

Together with a stellar cast that includes Emma Yong, Karen Tan, Jason Chan, Daniel Jenkins, Mark Richmond, Celine Rosa Tan and more, CABARET will scintillate and titillate – with its taut choreography, infectious score, outrageous costumes and all-round razzle-dazzle. But beyond its shiny musical wrapping, it tells a dark story with a truth that will resonate through all times; its message remains as galvanising as ever.

Helmed by some of Singapore's brightest talents, including the award-winning team of Beatrice Chia-Richmond (director) and Goh Boon Teck (production design), as well as leading choreographer Zaini Tahir, top local fashion designer Frederick Lee and Malaysia's premier composer Saidah, CABARET is set to be the biggest, boldest production ever put up by Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble.

So brace yourself. A sweet sordid revelry of dark succulent debauchery is about to be unleashed upon The Esplanade.

What is there to do on our way to hell – except sing and dance?
