Nature of Scholarship
The Financial Training Company (FTC) is pleased to offer Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) scholarships to union members who face financial hardship and wish to pursue their CAT studies at FTC Training Centre.
This scholarship is offered to two students for each full term intake. This scholarship will be for the July 2006 intake.
Value of Scholarship
The total value of each scholarship is worth approximately S$3500 which includes the course fees and course materials for all nine subjects. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.
Tenure of Scholarship
- Upon award of the scholarship, the recipient must enroll on the CAT course within six months, failing which the scholarship shall lapse.
- The recipient will be granted up to 2 years to complete their CAT studies with FTC if he/she has NO exemption or ONE exemption from ACCA (UK). The scholarship will be immediately terminated if the duration to complete the studies exceed the 2-year period. The recipient can then choose to study at his/her own expense at FTC.
- If TWO or MORE exemptions are granted by ACCA (UK), the recipient will be given a duration of 1½ years to complete their studies and obtain the CAT qualification, beyond which the scholarship will be terminated. The recipient can then choose to study at his/her own expense at FTC.
- Union members must maintain their union membership throughout the duration of the course or the scholarship will be immediately revoked.
Scholarship Eligibility
- Applicants' basic monthly salary should not exceed S$1800 (not including additional payment such as overtime, bonus or commission).
- Applicants should be Singapore citizens or permanent residents.
- The scholarship is applicable only to ordinary branch and general branch union members.

- Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.
- Ideally, the applicant should possess the GCE "O" level credit in English and Mathematics. Should the applicant possess qualifications from LCCI, ITE or AAT, exemptions on some papers may be granted by ACCA (UK).

- The recipient will be required to attain at least 95% of the course lectures and must sit for all exams.
- In the event of illness or other unforeseen circumstances resulting in attendance of less than 95%, a medical certificate or an unauthorized letter specifying the reason will be required confirming absence from class.
- The recipient will be responsible to submit the member registration to ACCA (UK) and ICPAS. The recipient will pay for all registration fees, annual subscriptions, exemption and examination fees payable to ACCA (UK) and ICPAS.
- The decision of FTC and NTUC on the selection of the scholarship recipients shall be final and no correspondence will be entertained.
- FTC and NTUC reserve the right to annul the scholarship at any time if, in its opinion, the recipient’s conduct or performance has not been satisfactory.
