Adding Value to Society
Ours is a labour movement with a social mission. Our cooperatives and other business concerns benefit not just workers but society as a whole. Our cooperatives and NTUC Club help level up workers, economically and socially.
Ours is a labour movement with a heart. Our unions adopt welfare homes and raise funds for various charities. We are developing a corps of volunteers to extend a helping hand to those in need. This caring attitude complements our efforts to build a more cohesive and gracious society.
Our labour movement has enriched the cultural scene. Voices from the Heart, a prize-winning entry at a songwriting competition organised by the NTUC, is regularly sung at community functions. The Singapore Dress, with orchid motif, is yet another contribution from the labour movement.
Globalisation has made the labour market more competitive. Those with skills in demand worldwide command high wages. Workers with low skills find their wages depressed because of a surplus of such labuor. In the spirit of Team Singapore, we will continue to find creative ways to bridge social barriers and strengthen community bonds.
