The government and the public transport operators, SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation, have contributed $3 million in public transport vouchers to help low-income families cope with this year’s public transport fare increase.

Out of this $3 million, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) will help the government and the public transport operators to disburse $900,000 worth of public transport vouchers to needy union members to help them cope with the fare increase.

“Public Transport Vouchers” Scheme
Public Transport Vouchers worth $3 million will be given out to assist up to 100,000 needy households.

Applicants will be eligible to apply if they meet the criteria below:

  • Total gross household monthly income of $1,500 or below, or;
  • Per capita income not exceeding $450/- if household income is more than $1,500.

Each successful household will receive one $30 voucher which can be used to purchase or top-up their EZ-Link cards or purchase monthly concession passes.

Application

  • Ordinary Branch (OB) members who meet the eligibility criteria may apply through their respective unions.
  • General Branch (GB) members may apply directly at NTUC Customer Service Centre, or download & complete the application form and send in to the address below.

Please note that only one application per family needs to be submitted.

All completed application forms are to be returned to NTUC Customer Service Centre together with the photocopies of the following documents before 16 October 2007:

  • Member and his/her spouse’s latest payslips
  • Death certificate (if member spouse is deceased)
  • Divorced certificate or divorce petition (if member is a divorcee)

Please note that you will be disqualified if the above documents are not submitted.

Application for Public Transport Vouchers will open from 17 September to 16 October 2007.
