We are pleased to inform that Application for the NTUC Union Leader Training Award (ULTRA) Scheme for diploma/degree courses commencing on or after 1 January 2009 is now open!

The main objectives of the awards scheme are:
1.  To recognise the services rendered by our union leaders.
2.  To assist union leaders to upgrade their skills and enhance their employability.

If you are a union leader and you meet the following guidelines, we offer sponsorship for diploma and degree courses offered by local institutions for further upgrading.


GUIDELINES FOR ULTRA SCHEME 2009

Number of Awards

There are 10 awards to be given out each calendar year.

Purpose of Award

The awards are eligible to Ex-Co Leaders only. Applicants may pursue diploma or degree part-time programmes from all recognised universities (local or foreign). In addition, programmes applied for must be industry recognised, be able to enhance employability of union leaders and be accredited by locally recognised institutions.

Award Details

Programme Fees
The total value of the award covers 90% of the course fees, subject to a cap of $10,000 inclusive of GST. There will be a one-off allowance of $1,600 for awardees who have satisfactorily completed the course.

Payment of award
The awards are only applicable for programmes that commence on or after 1 January 2009.

Repeat applications
Union leaders who have been awarded ULTRA previously may apply for the award again if the union provides a strong justification of his/her contributions to the Labour Movement.

Application Procedures

Applicants can apply for the award concurrently while seeking admission to the courses offered by the institutions. However, the awards will only be given to those who have successfully gained admission into the institution.

Applicants will be invited for an interview with Ong Teng Cheong Labour leadership Institute after the submission of the application.

Selection

Decisions by the Selection Committee and the Secretariat will be final and no correspondences will be entertained

Non Completion of the Programme

Successful awardees will have to reimburse NTUC for the full sponsored amount that they received should they fail to complete the course without valid reasons.

The Awardee is to submit the module transcripts (which shall include the result slips, transcripts of subjects, modules/semesters completed) and such other documents are required by the Secretariat, to the Secretariat within one month from the end of each semester. If the awardee fails to send the transcripts within the stipulated time NTUC reserves the rights to stop payment of all course fees and/or stipend immediately and/or to recover the entire amount of the course fee sponsorship and stipend paid to the Awardee.

Suspension of Award

NTUC reserves the right to withdraw or suspend the award at any time if, in their opinion, the awardees’ conduct or performance has not been satisfactory.
