Labour Movement goes on traditional LNY visit

        23 January 2012

        by Naseema Banu Maideen

Newly-elected NTUC Central Committee members joined Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, NTUC Secretary General Lim Swee Say, NTUC President Diana Chia and key union leaders to pay tribute to public transport duty personnel on 23 January 2012, the first day of the Lunar New Year.

The Lunar New Year Visit to unionised companies by key NTUC leaders has been ongoing since 1999 to show appreciation to workers who continue to perform essential duties during the festive celebrations. PM Lee has led these visits since 2008.

"It is very thoughtful that the Labour Movement does this gesture for the workers. We are glad to join PM in thanking the workers," said Benjamin Tang, President of Port Officers' Union.

Added Toh Hock Poh, President of Metal Industries Workers' Union: "This is a very warm gesture carried out annually by the Labour Movement. Our workers truly deserve this tribute."
