Dr Wan Rizal will join NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) as Director of Stakeholder Management, Career Services and Partnership Group (CSPG) from 18 August 2025.
He will also serve as a Labour Member of Parliament (LMP).
As part of his new appointments, Dr Rizal will focus on amplifying workers’ voices in Parliament and spearheading initiatives at e2i to connect jobseekers with meaningful opportunities and enhance their long-term employability.
He expressed his commitment to bridging policy and the realities faced by workers.
“I am honoured to join NTUC and NTUC’s e2i in this new capacity. In my years as an educator, community leader and Member of Parliament, I’ve met workers who felt left behind—whether it’s because of age, income, or background.
“I hope to be a strong bridge between workers and policy, and to champion the interests of lower-wage workers, mature workers, including those within our Malay-Muslim community.”
NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng said Dr Wan Rizal’s appointment would enhance the Labour Movement’s ability to understand, represent and advocate on behalf of all workers.
“We warmly welcome Brother Rizal to the Labour Movement … As socio-political and economic challenges, including emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, reshape the nature of businesses and jobs, it is crucial that our leadership stays closely connected to the ground.
“This connection with our workers enables us to better understand their evolving needs and concerns so that we can support them to seize opportunities and succeed in a rapidly changing environment,” said Mr Ng.
Dr Rizal is no stranger to the Labour Movement. Since his entry into politics in 2020, he was appointed advisor to two of NTUC’s affiliated unions, namely, the United Workers of Electronics & Electrical Industries (UWEEI) and the Singapore Teachers' Union (STU).

At e2i, Dr Rizal will oversee stakeholder engagement, working with union leaders, grassroots advisers, and community partners to organise career fairs and initiatives that link jobseekers to meaningful employment.
He will also develop programmes to enhance workers’ innovation, employability, and long-term career growth.
NTUC’s e2i CEO Caryn Lim said his community ties would be key to reaching underserved groups.
“Brother Rizal brings invaluable grassroots connections and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by lower-wage and mature workers, particularly within the Malay-Muslim community.
“His experience will help NTUC’s e2i sharpen our focus on reaching underserved groups and design career services and programmes that address their specific needs,” she said.
NTUC also paid tribute to Fahmi Aliman, who stepped down from his role on 30 June 2025. Mr Fahmi, who served as an LMP and played a key role in worker advocacy, was lauded for his dedication and impact.
“His dedication to speaking up for workers have made a lasting impact on their lives, particularly in advancing the interests of workers,” NTUC said in a statement.
