I confess to being a delivery junkie. You name it, I’ve probably ordered it, be it Grab food items or Shopee lifestyle products. I also need my regular Tada rides to work meetings and weekend R&R sessions.

Therefore, I know a thing or two about how hard delivery riders, cabbies, and private-hire drivers work in Singapore. From day to night, over 70,000 platform workers brave the blazing sun, downpours, and peak-hour traffic, often with few breaks, just to make on-time deliveries of products and people.

Although platform workers provide services many Singaporeans can’t live without these days, the reality is, many experience little appreciation in their daily grind.

Thankfully, that’s about to change.

NTUC ramps up appreciation for platform workers in 2026

NTUC will organise a total of eight events across the heartlands throughout 2026 to mark platform workers’ invaluable contributions in supporting daily services across Singapore.

The kick-off event on 25 March 2026 saw Punggol 21 Community Club’s multi-purpose hall come alive with booths offering a myriad of useful career and lifestyle services.

Over 150 platform workers spent a bustling afternoon browsing booths showcasing career and skills services from NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and Grab, income tax and CPF advice from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore and CPF Board, alongside lifestyle offers like mobile phone deals from Singtel and smart driving-tips from the Breeze app.

The NTUC membership booth was a hit, with many riders and drivers thronging its booth to find out how the membership could boost their lives and careers.

The Swensen’s mobile food truck also drew crowds, with platform workers and their families forming snaking queues to grab scrumptious burgers and ice cream.

Grassroots Adviser to Punggol GRC Grassroots Organisations Yeo Wan Ling (pictured above) dropped by the appreciation event to mingle and chat with platform workers and platform work association representatives, happily taking wefies with many of them.

Thanking platform workers is a journey

NTUC’s platform-worker appreciation events are a great start to appreciate their hard work, but it must go beyond that.

Yes, they are paid, but platform workers are the ones who make your daily life easier and more comfortable. Their effort, time, and care deserve applause, not indifference.

I don’t know about you, but I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the platform workers for keeping me safe on my journey home and delivering warm meals in the pouring rain. I salute you!
