The Lunar New Year Visit to unionised companies by key NTUC leaders has been ongoing since 1999 to show our appreciation to workers who continue to perform essential duties during these festive celebrations.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong and key union leaders greeted workers from SATS at SATS Inflight Catering Centre 1 in a visit led by NTUC. PM Lee and Mrs Lee, accompanied by NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Ng Chee Meng, NTUC Central Committee members as well as union leaders from Air Transport Executive Staff Union and Singapore Airport Terminal Services Workers' Union, appreciated some 150 workers working in the various kitchens, the Tray Assembly area and the Innovation & Product Development team.

Prior to the visit to SATS, NTUC SG Ng together with Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin and some taxi leaders from the National Taxi Association visited taxi drivers at Changi Airport Terminal 3. Together, they distributed gifts bags to more than 1,000 taxi drivers at the various terminals to appreciate them for providing transport services to Singaporeans during the festive period.

Also, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, accompanied by NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Dr Koh Poh Koon who is also Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Lam Pin Min and union leaders from the Singapore Port Workers Union and Port Officers’ Union visited some 1,000 PSA workers to appreciate them for ensuring the smooth running of port operations which functions 24/7, 365 days a year.
