Come October 2025, Singapore will be offering up to 800 new structured traineeships for fresh graduates through two new programmes known as the GRaduate Industry Traineeships (GRIT) and GRIT@Gov.

GRIT and GRIT@Gov will offer graduates from universities, polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Educations (ITE), and other educational institutions like private universities and overseas institutions paid traineeships to gain industry-relevant skills and ease their transition into full-time jobs.

Manpower Minister Tan See Leng made the announcement about the initiatives on 22 August 2025 at OCBC Campus.

“We have designed GRIT to help our fresh graduates gain industry experience and practical skills via traineeship which can then help them explore various career options while strengthening [their] employability for future jobs,” he said.

Dr Tan added that the GRIT will have traineeship positions in data science, strategy and planning, business analytics, digital marketing and engineering-related roles.

Companies currently on board the programme include Grab, Micron, OCBC, ST Engineering and Sea Limited.

Dr Tan said that while many graduates have shared that job searching can be daunting and exhausting, he assured that the Government will continue to stand behind young workers in their employment pursuits.

He added that graduates looking out for jobs now can also visit Careers@Gov where there are currently some 2,400 immediate vacancies in the public sector.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced these traineeships in his National Day Rally speech on 17 August 2025, following their development in consultation with tripartite partners under the Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce (SERT).

The traineeships will span across various sectors and industries and will last between three to six months.

Depending on the scope of each traineeship, trainees can expect a monthly allowance between $1,800 to $2,400.

The Government will fund 70 per cent of the allowance, with the host company bearing the remaining 30 per cent.

Difference between GRIT and GRIT@Gov

The GRIT Programme is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Workforce Singapore (WSG).

The programme supports fresh graduates who are keen to gain exposure in leading companies in various industries.

Meanwhile GRIT@Gov will be coordinated by the Public Service Division (PSD). It specifically supports traineeships for fresh graduates within public sector agencies.

Eligibility for GRIT

To be eligible, potential trainees must:

  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;

  • Have graduated in 2024/2025 from university, polytechnic, ITE or other educational institutions;
  • Have graduated earlier from the above institutions and completed National Service in 2024/2025.

Trainees who have completed their studies in 2025, but will only receive their certification in 2026, will also be eligible for the programmes.
