Set up in 1961, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) is a national federation of trade unions of workers in the industrial, service and public sectors. It has kept faith with the basic aim of trade unionism, which is to safeguard and enhance the interests of workers. As of Apr 2005, it has 63 trade unions and 6 associations affiliated to it. They collectively represent more than 450,000 union members.
