NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd was started in the early seventies when Singapore was faced with the oil crisis and rising prices due to inflation. Since then, NTUC FairPrice has continued with its original mission to stabilise the prices of essential consumer products and gone on to become the people's supermarket.

In keeping with the new age developments, FairPrice started its quest for an ISO 9002 certification in 1999. By 2001, all its supermarkets have received the certification which is the mark of distinguished quality that meets international standards. To date, majority of the FairPrice supermarkets has also been certified to the stringent HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) standard. This further affirms FairPrice's commitment towards world-standards food safety and handling.
