Mr Roy Chiang, Chairman, e2i
Ms Caryn Lim, CEO, e2i
Tripartite partners and Guests,
A very good morning to you. I’m delighted to join you this morning for the official opening of this new NTUC e2i Career Centre at Ang Mo Kio Hub.
With this opening, e2i will have now a network of 28 touchpoints across Singapore.
In fact, this centre at Ang Mo Kio Hub will serve as a dedicated employability hub for residents in the North, and AMK is well connected to all the regions to offer the best convenience to Singaporeans.
Supporting workers every step of the way
Today’s launch is more than just a new physical space for e2i.
It reflects NTUC’s broader commitment, together with our ecosystem partners, to bring career and skills support closer to workers.
But beyond accessibility, this centre also represents something deeper.
It reflects our core belief in NTUC that even as Artificial Intelligence, or AI, reshapes jobs and redefines skills, NTUC will stand alongside our workers - every step of the way.
We want workers to seize new opportunities, stay competitive, and benefit from AI-enabled growth.
In Singapore, NTUC and our tripartite partners will be alongside workers to ensure that we will always treasure our human capital.
This is very much the reason why tripartite partners have come together in April to set-up the Tripartite Jobs Council (TJC).
Through this collective effort:
we want to help workers reskill;
support businesses in adopting AI responsibly; and
ensure that AI transformation leads to better jobs and better worker outcomes.
One such effort to help workers reskill is NTUC’s AI-Ready SG initiative. This will equip workers with relevant skills in the AI age, so that they can adapt with confidence and benefit from new opportunities in a fast changing economy.
Under this AI-Ready SG initiative, in partnership with NTUC LearningHub, we will provide more than 1 million training places over the next few years, in foundational AI and also AI skills set that are for deeper or more advanced applications.
Workers can look forward to structured pathways to build their AI capabilities and improve their employability and productivity. This is very important in a changing landscape in the economy.
NTUC AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab
And we are bringing this key initiative into the community through the NTUC AI-Ready SG Skills Lab.
Just last week, close to 100 participants attended the inaugural workshop to learn how AI can support productivity and everyday work tasks.
Today, another group of participants will go through more advanced training focused on workflow automation, business applications, and decision-support tools.
In the AI world, we intend to introduce pathways for workers, who may be less familiar to AI, to a broader foundation of AI skillsets. And for advanced users to go deeper. So that they can bring the skillsets to businesses and relevant spaces to enhance productivity for businesses and ensure relevance and livelihoods in AI era.
Beyond training, workers can also access AI tools to apply what they learned.
NTUC members can now receive subsidies under UTAP for selected AI-related tool subscription.
We will continue rolling out more Skills Labs to reach different groups of workers across sectors, career stages, and different levels of AI proficiency. Not all of us are starting equal in this AI journey.
Better Jobs, Better Workers, Better Matching
But learning how to use AI is only the beginning. These skills must also help workers build confidence, adaptability, and be ready for the future.
As AI continues to disrupt job roles, it is important for workers to have access to timely support and practical guidance - with NTUC alongside.
That is exactly what this new career centre at Ang Mo Kio Hub is here to provide.
Its first digital lobby, the e2i Career Discovery Hub, brings 24/7 job search support closer to Singaporeans and workers: no longer limited by operating hours; jobseekers can access resources any time of the day or night.
Workers can tap on tools such as the NTUC AI Career Coach for resume optimisation, interview practice, skills profiling and job recommendations.
Additionally, job bank kiosks featuring the e2i Cart-A-Job and e2i-IMDA Tech Elevation & Career Hub are available to support job search and applications in tech, including internships for youth; upskilling opportunities and domain-specific learning pathways for mid-careerist.
This blended approach reflects how e2i is evolving our services to better support workers in an increasingly AI-enabled economy.
Even with a wide range of self-help resources available, e2i’s friendly career coaches stand ready to provide more personalised career guidance.
Such support is targeted, timely and responsive to those who find themselves in transition.
Beyond career services, the new centre also strengthens e2i’s ability to deepen partnerships with IHLs, companies and community partners.
By bringing together educational institutions, grassroots organisations, and businesses, we can create stronger collaboration and more integrated support across the whole ecosystem for residents in the North and Singaporeans.
With the new ServiceSG Centre located next door, residents can access not just access e2i’s support, but different forms of government support within the same vicinity in AMK Hub.
Closing
As we look ahead, I encourage workers and Singaporeans to tap on these offerings to seize new opportunities in a fast changing world.
NTUC will continue to work closely with unions, employers, government agencies and community partners through the Tripartite Jobs Council to ensure that AI transformation leads to inclusive growth.
Whether you are looking for a new opportunity, upgrading your skills, or exploring how AI can support your career journey, NTUC and e2i are here to walk this journey together with you.
Together, let us build a future where every worker can be a better worker, with better jobs and better opportunities.
Thank you, e2i, for the hard work to make this journey a reality. This is but the first step and the journey will be a long, but let’s search for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, where NTUC delivers better lives and livelihoods for our workers.
Thank you.
