Not sure on where to start with flexible work arrangements? Make use of ultra-high speed broadband for Singapore that connects all businesses and households. This will enable working mothers with children to still perform from their homes.
And did you also know that there is free wireless access in public areas in Singapore that even enables working on the road possible? Employees can now deliver their job roles from almost any place they are in, not just in the offices.
This is the way forward with flexible work arrangements – a message that NTUC Women’s Development Secretariat (WDS) reinforced with the presentations on Infocomm Development Authority’s new technologies that made work portable at its work-life seminar this year.
The term work-life balance is not new. It is an area of work that NTUC WDS has long focused on with new initiatives and experiments. And work-life seminars have always been a part of this journey.
This year too, NTUC WDS’ work-life seminar was held on 3 October, with the theme – ‘The Journey Forward’ and centered on promoting flexible work-arrangements.
Encouraging many more employers to embrace this concept, role models whom NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and NTUC Champion (Women and Family, Mature Workers) Cham Hui Fong described as “first movers”, came on board to share how these flexible work practices have benefited both their businesses and employees with improved productivity and enhanced performance levels.
Representatives from Singapore General Hospital and SP Services Limited shared on how these companies retained female talent by implementing various forms of flexibility in their business operations.
It was also at this seminar that the Secretariat released its latest publication, “Woman@Work- What She Really Needs” which packs more real life stories of bosses and employees who have created a better harmony between work environment and family space by exploring on various flexible work arrangements.
