FDAWU And Lazada Reach An Amicable Settlement Over Business Transformation Exercise

04 Feb 2024
Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU), a National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) affiliated union, and Lazada Singapore Pte Ltd (Lazada) have reached an amicable settlement following productive discussions on Lazada’s recent business transformation exercise in Singapore. The discussions resulted in an enhanced support package that FDAWU will use to help eligible affected union members.

Lazada and FDAWU have taken all considerations seriously and affirm the need to prioritise workers’ interests. Lazada and FDAWU will continue working closely to address the displaced workers' needs and concerns.

Lazada gave FDAWU direct recognition in October 2020. This means that as the legally recognised union for Lazada, FDAWU could enter into further discussions with Lazada to secure a better outcome for FDAWU union members. FDAWU also recognises that there are affected general branch members from other Lazada entities that are non-unionised. Although these are non-unionised entities, FDAWU hopes to support eligible general branch members.

Lazada has also established a dedicated training fund for FDAWU to provide employment and employability support for affected members in collaboration with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).

FDAWU and Lazada are committed to strengthening labour-management relations and ensuring workers’ interests are looked after. The agreement is a testament to the tripartite spirit embraced by all parties involved.

Former Lazada employees who are FDAWU union members affected by the 3 to 5 January 2024 business transformation exercise are encouraged to email FDAWU at fdawu@ntuc.org.sg by 5pm 20th February 2024 for further instructions.

Lazada wishes to express its deepest appreciation towards FDAWU and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for their unwavering support and collaboration throughout this process. NTUC and FDAWU thank Lazada for their cooperation. NTUC and FDAWU also express their appreciation to MOM, who assisted in facilitating some of the discussions.
