At the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) Committee of Supply Debate on 4 March 2024, NTUC Assistant Secretaries-General Patrick Tay and Desmond Choo called for more to be done to strengthen the Singaporean Core, and proposed for more clarity in the Employment Act to ensure fairness for all workers.

Mr Choo asked the ministry for an update on how the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS) has helped achieve Singapore’s economic needs while Mr Tay asked for a review of the Employment Pass qualifying salary.

Additionally, Mr Tay also proposed for MOM to embark on a review of the Employment Act with tripartite partners to ensure that the act remains up to date and clear to workers on their rights.
