In July 2021, ST Engineering Land Systems established its Company Training Committee (CTC) with ST Engineering Staff Union (STESU) and became one of the pioneering companies to apply for and be awarded the CTC Grant that is administered by NTUC’s e2i. Since then, they have been actively looking at improving the following work areas:

  • Address specific needs and challenges at Business Area levels
  • Identify training gaps and formulate targeted solutions
  • Training and upskilling of workers to meet the current and future work challenges

Project details

With the CTC Grant funding a portion of this project, ST Engineering Land Systems was able to implement the Telescopic Cobot Welding System to replace traditional manual welding in April 2023. The implementation of this innovative system has helped to increase productivity and resolved the following challenges:

  • Confined workspace
  • Dangerous and potential health hazards
  • Time consuming and welding quality consistency
  • Ageing workforce
  • Shortage of skilled welders
  • Unable to attract younger generation of workers

Outcome and benefits

The CTC collaboration has helped to:

  • Reduce dependency on skilled welders
  • Provide a 4-5% wage increment for workers
  • Upskill 16 staff in robotics and automation
  • Create a safer working environment for workers
