The annual NTUC May Day Family Fiesta returned to Downtown East on 31 May 2025, delivering another day of excitement for union members and their loved ones.

With D'Marquee opening its doors for the event, the venue buzzed with activity as families enjoyed a wide variety of fun and games designed for all ages.

The festivities featured stage performances throughout the day with comedy shows, magic acts, and fire bubble displays, while carnival games and giant inflatables kept children entertained.

For the more adventurous, an Amazing Race mobile escape game offered chances to win up to $1,000 in Downtown East vouchers, with sports tryouts including climbing challenges, table tennis, and the latest fitness trends like Piloxing and Salsation.

NTUC President K Thanaletchimi and NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng joined families in the celebrations, engaging members at various activity stations.

Beyond the laughter and games, this year’s fiesta represented something deeper–a celebration of NTUC’s unwavering commitment to its members throughout the year.

Beyond the fun: A year-round promise of care

While May Day Fiesta offers one special day of family bonding, NTUC’s care for workers extends 365 days a year through comprehensive support programmes that touch every aspect of members’ lives.

The NTUC-U Care Fund, established in 2009, stands as a testament to this commitment.

In 2024 alone, the fund helped over 44,000 lower-income union members and their families through various assistance programmes, disbursing millions in support for daily essentials, education, and emergency relief.

From the NTUC Care Fund providing up to $150 in cash assistance for daily necessities, to e-vouchers helping families purchase school supplies, the Labour Movement ensures no worker faces hardship alone.

The introduction of specialised programmes like the NTUC Care Fund (Work Injury Relief) for platform workers and the NTUC Care Fund (Youth Enable) grant for students facing sudden challenges shows NTUC’s evolving response to workers’ changing needs.

Building stronger families, one generation at a time

Perhaps most telling of NTUC’s long-term vision is its focus on workers’ children – the next generation of Singapore.

The NTUC Care Fund (Education Awards) supported 1,161 tertiary students in 2024 with $518,000 in awards, while the Bright Horizons Fund at NTUC First Campus helped over 6,000 children access quality preschool education.

“The initiative is good because it can help my mum financially. It is also a great motivator and quite encouraging to receive this award,” shared Keith Tan, one of the education award recipients, capturing the impact these programmes have on young Singaporeans and their families.

From affordable daily essentials at FairPrice Group to comprehensive insurance coverage through Income Insurance, from skills training at NTUC LearningHub to senior care services through NTUC Health – the NTUC enterprise portfolio creates an ecosystem of support that spans every life stage.

As families enjoy the May Day Fiesta’s carnival atmosphere, they’re celebrating more than just a day off work. They’re celebrating a movement that stands with them through life’s ups and downs, ensuring that every worker matters–not just on May Day, but every day of the year.
