With Singapore transiting towards a more knowledge-based economy, the Labour Movement saw the need to assist the growing workforce of Professionals, Managers and Executives (PMEs) in four key areas – Protection, Progression, Placement and Privileges (4Ps).

Initiated in 2011 by the Labour Movement, U Associate is a partnership programme designed to engage and support professional associations and PMEs. With U Associate, we can come together to achieve greater Growth, forge stronger Relationships and open up new Opportunities.

NTUC and its U Associates work with a sectoral focus in developing skills progression plans to prepare our PMEs to be future-ready.

The NTUC Future Leaders Programme is NTUC’s progression-engine, having inspired and positively impacted upon more than 18,000 Singaporean PMEs in the past three years, providing practical foresight and innovative insights for Singapore’s contemporary workforce that is undergoing rapid transformation. The Programme provides critical workplace survival skills, multi-disciplinary perspectives, and an upskilling edge to tackle complex challenges within the workplace and your career. Championing thought leadership across the various industries and sectors, the Programme offers our PMEs unique access to luminary leaders, trailblazers and industry veterans, and a knowledge-rich ecosystem for professional and personal development, invaluable networking opportunities and prospects for potential strategic partnerships. The NTUC Future Leaders Programme imparts keys to career resilience and success, for the Professional Workforce of today, to be globally geared and future ready.

The Labour Movement’s U Care Fund will roll out its first assistance programme for this year – the U Stretch vouchers, which are discount vouchers allowing union members to maximise their daily expenditure on basic necessities. The recent first fundraising event of U Care Fund – U Care Charity Golf 2011 had helped raised more than $6.8 million. From this amount raised, $3 million will be used for the U Stretch vouchers to potentially benefit 30,000 low-income union members. This year, each successful applicant will receive $100 worth of vouchers, a significant increase from the $30 last year.

NTUC’s Care and Share Director, Mr Zainudin Nordin said: “Although our economic situation has improved in general, we face the pressures of inflation and rising cost of living. Thus, we hope that this increase in quantum of U Stretch vouchers will help our low-income members cope better especially if they are the sole breadwinners or have several dependants.”

U Care Fund would like to make special thanks to the NTUC affiliated unions and associations, NTUC Social Enterprises and tripartite partners whose generous donations go towards funding  the U Stretch vouchers, in particular Singapore Labour Foundation (SLF), NTUC FairPrice Foundation, NTUC Income and NTUC Choice Homes. It is through such generous support to U Care Fund that allowed the Labour Movement to continue its efforts in providing assistance to the low-income members and their families.

Each successful applicant will receive one booklet with $100 worth of U Stretch vouchers in 2011. Each voucher is worth $2.50 in value and can be redeemed with a minimum spending of $5.00 at participating NTUC Social Enterprises.

Application is now closed.
