Norma has been working as a Production Operator before she had a career switch to become a house-keeper with ISS Facility Services Pte Ltd. She faces challenges along the way in the course of her work; the change of working environment and the job nature as she only face machines everyday at the factory but now she needs to interact with people; both locals and foreign colleagues and the job require her to move around. Norma felt that she has to adapt and manage the changes fast in order to perform her task well. She has no confident and was afraid to take up the responsibility as she was not well equip with interpersonal communication and writing skills. She took up English language course to brush up her English in order to communicate with have the confidence as well as attending various courses to upgrade her skills in House-keeping Operations, Vector Control course, FLOW (Functional Literacy for Our Workers) programme and Basic Supervisory Skills. Norma is grateful and appreciates the government for promoting skills upgrading for older workers and assistance provided to women returning to the workforce like her. She is also thankful that her employer is very supportive in sending her for further training for her to stay relevant in her job. Norma shows great interest in upgrading her skills and taking initiative in staying back after work or even come back on her rest day to attend the scheduled training.
