DREAM. BELIEVE. ACHIEVE.
We’ve learnt that being a leader tomorrow requires a keen innovative spirit and being in touch with the latest trends and technology. However, limitations and distractions can sometimes stand in the way of upskilling and growth. We asked our panel what they thought were some of the key challenges facing PMEs in their learning and development.
Joreis Ong, Service Relationships Manager
One of the key challenges facing PMEs is in identifying relevant areas of learning and professional development. We need to ensure that these areas directly benefit and contribute to the upgrading of PMEs, adding value to them and their employers.
Muhd Fuadi Bin Rahmat, Lecturer
PMEs face a lack of various things – some face the lack of support and trust from their employers; some lack motivation to improve their learning and development; while others lack awareness of programmes that cater to their needs as well as the funding to attend these programmes.
Sharon Cheng, Legal Counsel
One challenge is finding the right mentors to guide and nurture PMEs in the right direction, based on the PME’s talent profile. Adaptability is another challenge that PMEs may face. In the course of their advancement, PMEs need to identify the skills which are crucial to their future.
Lim Tze Qi, Human Resource
There are limited avenues being marketed that allow PMEs to be aware of their learning and development gaps. Also, PMEs may not be challenged outside of their comfort zone due to their limited networking opportunities with their peers, or have the opportunity to learn from top leaders in their industry in a more interactive setting.
