Yuan Yan started working in Singapore as a nurse last year. Since then, she faces challenges along the way in the course of her work; the change of working environment and the need to interact with people in English as compared to her hometown in China. Yuan Yan has no confident of her communication and writing skills. Yuan Yan felt that she has to adapt and manage the changes fast in order to perform her task well. Last year, she came across a roadshow by NTUC Learning Hub where they were promoting their programmes. When she learnt that NTUC member enjoys instant UTAP course fee support when they enroll for courses offered by NTUC Learning Hub, she sign up for the membership immediately. Last December, she attended a course named WSQ ES Workplace Literacy Comprehensive Advanced Level at NTUC Learning Hub to brush up her English in order to communicate better with her superior, colleagues and patients. Yuan Yan is grateful and appreciates the UTAP funding provided by NTUC to promote skills upgrading for union members. The subsidized course fee will lessen her financial burden as she has support her family together with her husband. After attending this course, Yuan Yan is now able to read, speak and write in English confidently. |
